The interesting thing about ‘these unprecedented times’ (I’m just kidding, that trite expression really needs to be retired), is there’s both challenges and opportunities in equal measure. Here at Ocean State Shields, we were challenged by several local businesses to develop an outdoor dining solution that worked without sending utility costs, or their actual business, through the roof — propane heaters can be a massive fire hazard.
The team got together, and working to coordinate with both a local manufacturer, and the RI State Fire Marshal’s Office, we have the ONLY igloo currently available which meets code. It’s 10 feet in diameter, can seat a four-top, and withstand a moderate snow-load.
We also partnered up with another longtime friend and female entrepreneur, Grace Hsai of Warmilu fame, to create heated seat cushions, vests for staff members, and heated table skirts. It’s been great to see so many companies looking to secure the vests for their teams. Hospitality professionals have really born the brunt of this pandemic with being forced to adapt to increasingly difficult environments. We didn’t want them to have to be cold, too.
With the push to ‘Take it Outside’ you’re going to be seeing a LOT of OSS wares on the street, and inside all your favorite establishments. We’re wait listed with over 80 companies in the cue and it’s growing daily. We’re aiming to get this all done within 30 days. If you or someone you know has a company needing assistance, send them our way. We’re not going anywhere, anytime soon.
